SUBJECT: A Resolution in Recognition of the Leadership of Duke University's President Nannerl O. Keohane, Presented by The Center for Academic Integrity, April 2004
The affiliated members and staff of the Center for Academic Integrity respectfully submit the following resolution in Recognition of the Leadership of Duke University's President Nannerl O. Keohane
WHEREAS, the world is witness to a crisis of integrity today that encompasses corruption and fraud in the corporate world, betrayals of trust in government and religious institutions, and rising rates of cheating and plagiarism among high school and university students; And
WHEREAS, the Center for Academic Integrity (CAI) has played a leading role in efforts to elevate academic integrity to a position of prominence in education; And
WHEREAS, the CAI recognizes the important support of Duke University--the Center's home since 1997; And
WHEREAS, President Nannerl Keohane has provided significant leadership and advocacy in the promotion of academic integrity as a high priority at Duke University and at college and university campuses nationwide; And
WHEREAS, under her guidance and leadership, Duke University has served as a role model to other institutions as they make great strides in raising awareness of the problems of academic dishonesty through assessment and programmatic efforts; And
WHEREAS, President Keohane took a courageous step in releasing to the public the results of a Duke University study that included rates of self-reported student cheating and faculty attitudes towards cheating; And
WHEREAS, the CAI and its members are deeply appreciative of this support, dedication and courage;
BE IT RESOLVED, that the CAI thanks and commends President Keohane for her leadership and dedication to the principles of academic integrity; And
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the President of the Center for Academic Integrity will present this resolution to the CAI membership for their endorsement and will distribute it to college and university presidents.
