Policy Issues and Initiatives
- Honor Code adopted in 1993.
- Modified Honor Code system - written honor pledge, strong student role in judicial system. Duke does not have unproctored exams or a non-toleration clause (mandatory requirement for students to report cheating).
- Strong support from the President and senior ranking faculty and staff.
- Leadership by the Academic Integrity Assessment Committee (consisting of faculty, students and administrators).
- Honor Code signing Ceremony at Fall Convocation - Fall 2000.
- Participated in an assessment process in 2000 and 2001 to ascertain the level of cheating and faculty attitudes.
- Faculty from the Arts and Sciences Council and the Engineering Faculty Council hold a first ever-joint
meeting to discuss faculty buy-in issues (Spring 2001).
