This from Evangeline M: I am seeking out institutions which may have a high number of foreign students to ask: how do they teach about the "different voices" involved in writing research papers?
The institutions do not necessarily have to be outside of the States or Canada (generally, English-speaking countries, although I am clearly interested in what they especially might suggest) but anyone who has effective material to recommend in relation to teaching why and how students have to be conscienscious about developing their own voices in their writing and acknowledging other sources when they use them. The rationale behind this focus is that in some countries students are not taught either to develop their own thoughts/voices nor the academic/moral/social/legal grounds for crediting sources. I am not interested in the typical - avoid plagiarism - approach, but rather one in which students who come from a different cultural background than a western one, especially, might be helped to understand why it's so pertinent to establish and acknowledge the different voices.... |

I am interested in this as well. We are currently looking into ways that we can have either a class or presentation for the students in our English Langauge Program that students with initial violations of academic integrity would attend. We do already make presentations in the orientation classes of the English Language Program as well as various orientation sessions, but we are interested in knowing if other institutions are doing more already.
